New railway line between the cities of Zagreb and Rijeka is going to be built. According to Rijeka Danas magazine, the construction would take from 5 to 6 years and could be finished in 2014.
With construction of the new line, the time of travel from Zagreb to Rijeka could be shortened from current four to only one hour. The construction of the new railway line would be aimed at increasing the transport of Port of Rijeka, which is now less competitive than Slovenian Port of Koper.
In related news, from July 1 Croatian railways (Hrvatske Zeljeznice) increased prices in passenger transport by approx. 7 per cent. This increase will not apply to additional prices for fast, express and low-floor trains, sleeping cars, and transport of vehicles.
