The Propeller of Motovun, the main award of the 11th International Motovun Film Festival, went to the British film "Fish Tank", directed by Andrea Arnold, the jury announced at the end of the five-day festival on Friday.
The jury said that the film "portrays in a subtle way people living on the margins of society" and that the excellent collaboration between the actors and the director "made this drama very convincing."
The film "Buick Riviera" by Croatian director Goran Rusinovic received the "From A to A" Award, which was introduced in 2003 to help films made in the region stretching from Albania to Austria break through the national boundaries and find their audiences in the neighbouring countries.
The "Motovun Online" Award, which is awarded to short films of up to 15 minutes in length, went to the Swedish film "Planting Kisses", directed by Ivica Zubak.
Motovun Film Festival is held in Motovun, a hilltop town in central Istria. The festival is dedicated to showing small films but is massively popular on the cult film scene drawing hundreds of visitors every year.
