Croatian boatmen, who succeeded in crossing the English Channel in a gondola-like boat in June this year, are to use the same boats to cross the Adriatic sea.

The Neretva boatmen’s association said they plan to form five teams who will sail the long wooden boats shaped like Venetian gondola to cross from south of Croatia to Termoli in Italy.  

The boatmen are members of local teams who compete with each other on the Neretva river every year in the event “Maraton ladja”.

They said that Croats living in the Molise region of Italy would join them in a crossing.
