Yamato, the Japanese troupe of Taiko drummers, will bring their highly-charged rhythm to Croatia for the first time with the performance at the Zagreb’s Sports Hall on April 19th 2010.
Yamato is group of men and women who have rejuvenated the ancient Japanese tradition of Taiko drumming. The ensemble's performances feature a collage of music and dance. The group draw their inspiration from the ancestral Japanese beliefs about the power of the drum.
Yamato was founded by Masa Ogawa in 1993 in Nara, "the land of Yamato" which is said to be the birthplace of Japanese culture. Since then, the troupe has grown from 4 to 17 members and played to more than a million people, giving over 2,000 performances on tours in Asia, Europe, North and South America.
Zagreb performance is part of the troupe’s worldwide tour 2009 -2010 "Matsuri - Fiesta".
