Croatian national carrier Croatia Airlines has cancelled its only flight to Rijeka Airport located on the island of Krk.
The airline’s management has decided to cancel summer flights Zagreb - Rijeka - London in order to cut costs. They claim the flights are not profitable, and do not plan to introduce any new flights to Rijeka.
Rijeka airport head Mladen Pasaric believes the decision will affect the airport.
"This flight was a connection to Croatia for our emigrants in London and the USA. I believe the flights' cancellation will harm us, especially because they were always full. To be honest, I was expecting they would introduce additional flights, not cancel the only one," Pasaric said for the daily Novi list.
Pasaric has asked the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure to reconsider the decision, and Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel also hopes Croatia Airlines will reconsider its decision.
