The Adriatic city of Dubrovnik offers visitors a plethora of things to see and do whatever type of holiday they are looking for, it has been suggested.

According to Meri Matesic, Director of Croatian National Tourist Office in the UK, the city features a number of attractions and activities, which cater for every taste.

History buffs and visitors keen on learning more about Croatia's rich past may wish to take a walk along the city's walls with five forts and 16 towers and bastions that encompass the town, and offer a magnificent view of the sea and the entire area.

In Dubrovnik's old town, it may be worth a stop to take in the 16th-century Sponza Palace and the impressive art collection located at the nearby Dominican monastery and museum, Matesic says.

For anyone planning on a longer stay in the city, Matesic recommended short excursions such as a  visit to the Museum of Archaeology Narona in Vid, boat excursion to Elaphite Islands and a trip to Ston which is famous for its oysters.

A recent research carried out by online travel agency www.holidays-direct.co.uk revealed Dubrovnik as one of the most popular holiday destination for UK holidaymakers.
