Visitors to Dubrovnik will be able to experience stunning views of the city when a new tourist attraction opens this summer.
Works are under way to reopen the Dubrovnik Cable Car and link the city to the fortress on Mount Srd. Originally built in 1969, the cable car carried more than 2.5 million visitors who enjoyed the panoramic view of the city, but was damaged during the war in 1991.
According to the information on Dubrovnik Cable Car website, two cabins, holding 30 passengers, will within 3 minutes negotiate the 778 meter distance between the lower and upper station, passing over one tower on the way.
The facilities at the upper station, located at 405 meters above sea level, include two terraces equipped with binocular telescopes, a snack bar and restaurant with panoramic views of the city, a souvenir shop, restrooms and an amphitheatre seating 250 persons.
The amphitheatre is also available for hire for an event or a special occasion. The lower station will offer a comfortable space to disembark the guests from two coaches, at a time, with suitable restrooms facilities (including disabled access).
The Dubrovnik Cable Car will start operating on July 1st 2010.
