Dubrovnik has been listed among the top ten cities recommended for tourists by the The new Lonely Planet Discover Europe guide.
The summer 2010 “Grand Tour” invites readers to Dubrovnik, alongside London, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Vienna, Budapest, Berlin, Athens and Istanbul.
Recommending the ‘pearl of the Adriatic’, Lonely Planet highlights the city's magnificent walls and views, outstanding monuments that recall an eventful history and a vibrant artistic tradition, vibrant cafes and shops and, beyond the city, a heavenly landscape of beaches, wooded peninsulas and a sea strewn with lush islands.
Holidaymakers will be offered a new experience in Dubrovnik this summer when a cable car begins operating on Mount Srd next month.
Passengers will be transported up the mountain in two carriages with the capacity to hold 30 people each, which will make the ascent in three minutes.
The upper station is located 405 meters above sea level and, on a clear day, offers views stretching for 60km.
Visitors will be able to look through telescopes to see the city below them and some of the islands that are located off the coast.
