The Davis Cup Committee has approved Sportska Dvorana "Zatika" in Porec as the venue for Croatia's Davis Cup World Group semi-final against the Czech Republic, writes Tennis Week. The semi-final will take place next month, September 18-20, and it will be staged on red clay. Spain is scheduled to host Israel on red clay in the other semi-final.
 
Local media reported that the ITF favoured the larger city of Split as the host site. The Sportska Dvorana "Zatika" seats only 4,000 people.

Last November, Argentina hosted the Davis Cup final in the smaller site of Mar del Plata, rather than Buenos Aires, where it had won 13 consecutive ties and some in attendance complained that only about 1,000 tickets were made available to the public and that the smaller venue was overcrowded.
 
However, Croatian Goran Prpic and his players reportedly strongly favoured Porec, where the team has enjoyed success, and won both of its 2009 ties (Chile and USA) in Porec. Croatia has won 11 of its last 12 home ties in Davis Cup and if it advances to the final and faces Spain, which is a heavy favourite over visiting Israel, it will have another home tie.
