Krapina Neanderthal Museum has been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award for 2012.

The museum was opened last year and uses cutting edge technology to offer visitors an overview of life and culture of the Neanderthal man in Krapina, one of the most important archaeological sites of the Neanderthal in the world. 

The European Museum of the Year Award is the most prestigious museum award in Europe. It stands for innovation, public quality and professional excellence in museums and brings together both professional reputation and public benefit under one umbrella.

Krapina Neanderthal Museum is one of forty six museums to be nominated for the prize, which was founded in 1977 under the auspices of the Council of Europe. The winner will be announced at the European Museum of the Year Annual Conference and Awards taking place in May 2012.
