Following their successful performances in the UK last year, Croatian Klapa Motovun returns to London to perform at St Martin in the Fields. 

The group will play a lunchtime concert in London’s landmark church on January 17th 2012 at 1pm. Programme will feature songs and folksongs, sung in the traditional Croatian a cappella style of Klapa music.

Klapa Motovun was formed in 2003 in Motovun, a medieval hill top town in central Istria. While adhering to the genuine Dalmatian Klapa music and form, Klapa Motovun have also been influenced by the modern trends of Klapa singing and now also performs modern Croatian music adapted to the traditional style. 

Originally performing only in Istria, Klapa Motovun soon became popular and started performing throughout Croatia and abroad (Slovenia, Italy and the UK). The group takes pride in performing at the Omis competition of Dalmatian Klapas (2005-2008) reaching the finals in 2007 as one of the 12 best small Klapas. Klapa Motovun also took part in many numerous Klapa festivals in Croatia and performed in the Pula Arena.  

As part of their world music concert series in 2010, Klapa Motovun performed in London at St Leonard's Church and St Ethelburga's, and were invited by Lady Jellicoe to sing at a charity concert in Tidcombe, Wiltshire. In 2011 Klapa Motovun performed in St Ethelburga's and headlined the Corsham Folk Festival in Wiltshire.

Klapa Motovun have produced two CDs and their songs have been included in numerous compilation CDs of Klapa music. In 2011 their interpretations were selected for the promotional CD "Sounds of the Mediterranean" intended for tourists and foreign visitors to Croatia.

The lunchtime concerts at St Martin in the Fields are free and no ticket is required. Lunchtime concerts last approximately 45 minutes. A collection is taken at the end of the concerts which goes towards the work of St Martin's.
