A total of 11,200,113 people visited the country last year, out of which 9,907,827 were foreign visitors and 1,292,286 domestic visitors. The figures represent an increase of 8 per cent in foreign visits and 4 per cent in domestic visits.

 

The number of overnight stays also went up in 2011 when compared to the previous year. A total of 65,116,830 overnight stays was recorded, 7 per cent more than in the previous year. 58,411,864 stays were realised by foreign visitors (7 per cent more over 2010) and 6,704,966 by domestic visitors (up 5 per cent over 2010).

 

The biggest increase of foreign visits to Croatia was recorded from Slovenia (12 per cent), followed by visitors from Austria (11 per cent) and Germany (10 per cent). The most popular tourist destination was Split-Dalmatia County which registered 1,881,741 visitors, 8 per cent more over the previous year. 

 

The figures from the Croatian National Tourist Board also revealed that all coastal regions in Croatia and the city of Zagreb registered more visitors and overnight stays in 2011 over 2010.

 

With 4,913,074 visitors (up 6 per cent over 2010), Dalmatia was the most popular tourist region, followed by Istria with 3,011,316 visits (up 10 per cent over 2010) and Kvarner with 2,185,601 visits (up 8 per cent over 2010). The city of Zagreb recorded 664,171 visits (up 10 per cent over 2010).

 

Croatian National Tourist Board will promote the country’s tourist offer on 46 travel exhibitions and shows this year. Croatia will be promoted under the slogan “The Mediterranean As It Once Was".
