Visit Split!
Split is the most imaginative town of Dalmatia, rich in history and architecture, medieval houses and churches built on the ruins of imperial chambers. The Roman Emperor Diocletian founded it in the 4th century AD. He built the enormous palace and the walled town, which now form part of the old quarter. In this city-museum, history lives with the present and the traces of the past can be seen everywhere.
Concerts, opera and dance all take place within the palace today, which is also on UNESCO's World Heritage list. Split and the surrounding area are known for their mild Mediterranean climate and pleasant subtropical vegetation. The Split Summer festival is held annually from mid-July to mid-August, with a variety of concerts, ballet, traditional folk celebrations and other cultural events taking place.
In the vicinity of Split are the Rivieras of Trogir and Kastel. The town of Omis under the fortress situated on the mouth of the river Cetina has stunning scenery with cliffs and rocks in the background.
